BALTIMORE, May 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — CyberPoint International, LLC announced today that it has been awarded a fixed price contract by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Borders and Maritime Security Division (BMD) to participate in the Container Security Device Technology Demonstration for the US/EU Global Supply Chain Pilot Project. AKUA LLC, a subsidiary of CyberPoint, develops security solutions for customers in the logistics and supply chain markets.
The pilot is being conducted to demonstrate a Shipping Information Pipeline, which can provide a generic publish/subscribe architecture in which shippers, logistics companies, and customs agencies can produce and consume information. Increased visibility across global supply chains will improve process efficiencies and security. CyberPoint’s AKUA solution will provide tracking and breach detection data to the current Supply Chain Visibility Platform. In partnership with BMD through Sandia National Laboratories and SSC Pacific, key data and events of interest to all stakeholders will be identified.
CyberPoint was among 20 commercial solutions initially assessed and 8 evaluated at Sandia National Laboratories to determine whether commercially available conveyance security solutions could be utilized with a common data management system. Each solution was evaluated for data accuracy, data integrity, data security, and operational performance.
“The security and integrity of the global supply chain is foundational to our national security and essential to the global economy,” said AKUA CEO, Neil Furukawa. “By creating a secure, IoT platform for global logistics, AKUA can enable all trading partners and customs agencies within a supply chain to contribute and share information, regardless of endpoint device or backend system. We’re proud that AKUA’s proven solution was selected by DHS and honored to participate in this important pilot program.”
Ensuring cargo security as it flows through supply chains is a challenge faced by industry and governments alike, both domestically and internationally. The Container Security Device Technology Demonstration will help DHS and customs agencies implement solutions to identify illegal activity introduced into the supply chain while facilitating the flow of legal commerce. Tracking the integrity of the cargo conveyance and reporting any breaches or intrusions that occur can provide more definitive identification of which shipments are high risks, ensuring more efficient use of resources, and which shipments are low risk and might receive expedited processing.
